| The aims of this work were to estimate the coefficient of relatedness within families and the genetic parameters for growth related traits in a progeny test from an open-pollinated variety of Pinus caribaea Morelet hondurensis Barret & Golfari, established in Mato Grosso do Sul State, Brazil. The experimental design was the triple 10 x 10 lattice, with 96 families, three replicates, and ten plants per plot. Fourteen years after planting, the trial was measured for the following traits: total height, diameter at breast height (DBH), and true volume. The estimation of coefficients of relatedness within family from microsatellite loci indicated that families are true half-sibs (^r xy = 0.253). | Objetivou-se com este trabalho estimar parâmetros e valores genéticos para os caracteres diâmetro do coleto e altura de progênies de bracatinga em fase inicial de desenvolvimento. As sementes foram coletadas de 40 matrizes nativas nos municípios de Abelardo Luz, Chapadão do Lageado, Lages e Três Barras, SC. O teste de progênie foi conduzido na Fazenda Experimental do Centro de Ciências Agroveterinárias da Universidade do Estado de Santa Catarina, em Lages, visando à seleção de materiais genéticos adaptados ao local. | The objective of this work was to study the efficiency of the early selection of parents and progeny for simultaneous increment of the growth and wood quality. For this, 48 open-pollinated families of Pinus taeda were grown at close spacing (0,5m x 0,5m). At the age of 16 months they were assessed for stem diameter at 30 cm above the ground and for wood basic density. The data were compared to diameter at breast height and basic density of commercial stem of the same progenies at 84 months under field conditions. Phenotypic and genetic parameters were estimated using an individual tree model.
